What I Know about Love,
The times when you think you need it from someone else, are the times you need it from yourself the most. That it will come in unexpected forms and often, so you have to be open, alert and grateful otherwise you may miss it.
That sometimes, you really just need your Mother to tell you,”everything will be okay,” and that’s all the love you need. That sleep, water and frozen yogurt with extra sprinkles actually do make you feel better when your heart feels heavy.
That in every Love Story there are different rhythms, a time to play, a time to rest, a time to learn one another, a time to nest and connect…. that also means there is a time for space. That you have to trust the “rhythm” you’re in, it’s okay when things aren’t always sunshine, sneaking kisses on street corners and cupcakes…. like this quote, “Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls” from Kahlil Gibran, that quote is a good one for your back pocket.
That Rumi. Glitter. A box of Crayons. Yoga. Sweat. Playing dress up. Long drives. And a really great glass of wine are a the perfect ingredients for a “Love Yourself” day.
That…..being in LOVE doesn’t have to be exclusive to being with A love, if you recognize thatyou are love.
That you have to always trust your instinct.
That butterflies are fun. So is that awkward stumbling for words, or accidentally stepping on their toe when you go in for a hug because you’re so excited. Go with it.
That sometimes, it’s scary…. that sweaty palms and racing hearts, navigating and mastering, speaking up and skipping beats– is just your heart reminding you that you are ALIVE. See that?Skip, skip.
That the moment he knows how to get my coffee order just right, or when he figures out that I tug on my ear when I’m getting nervous, or how to hang out with my Uncles, or talk for hours with my Dad and laugh at my mom’s quirky jokes and fiercely protect my little sister, size up her boyfriends and think no one is good enough for her…that THEN, that’s when he’ll have my heart.
That it’s okay to want the Grand Gestures, the Cinematic Romance, the guy that does something so outrageous that you think he won’t be able to top it, but he does every. single. time. it’s okay to want that, because that’s what you’ll get. Whatever you put up with, you end up with.
That you can’t rush anything…. love is the thing you have to be the most patient with.
That despite anything, fear, heartbreak, apprehension… you must OPEN, open, open your heart…. it’s the bravest thing you can possibly do.
